The Producer
Stettyn Family Vineyards is one of the Breede River Valley’s most storied estates, with roots stretching back to 1714 when Governor Chavonnes of the Dutch East India Company granted the original farm to Free Burghers whose ancestors hailed from Stettin in former Prussia. Acquired by the Botha family in 1818, the estate has been lovingly farmed for eight generations. Today, under the guidance of winemaker JM Crafford and CEO Sarel Meyer, 438 hectares of vineyard thrive in the sheltered valley between Villiersdorp and Worcester. The original Cape Dutch homestead, dating to 1777, is now a National Monument.
Vintage & Terroir
Moscato thrives in the warm, sun-drenched conditions of the Breede River Valley, developing the intense floral aromatics and luscious fruit character the grape is known for. Stettyn’s vineyards, sheltered by mountains and cooled by evening breezes, provide just enough freshness to keep the natural sweetness in check. The Frizzanté style — gently sparkling rather than fully fizzy — is the perfect vehicle for this aromatic variety.
In the Cellar
The Muscat grapes were harvested early to preserve their delicate floral aromatics and natural acidity. Cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures captured the grape’s expressive perfume, while the gentle carbonation was added to create a persistent, playful bead of fine bubbles. The wine was bottled young to lock in maximum freshness and fruit vibrancy.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Pale straw with a lively, persistent stream of fine bubbles.
Nose: Fragrant and inviting — yellow apple, honeydew melon and lemon zest leap from the glass, with white flower blossom and a hint of musk.
Palate: Clean, refreshing and gently sweet, with rich acidity balancing the luscious fruit. A creamy mousse carries flavours of ripe pear, citrus and delicate lemon curd to a lively finish.
Finish: Light and refreshing, with lingering citrus and floral notes that invite the next sip.
Food Pairing
A brilliant sundowner on its own, or pair with fresh fruit salad, strawberry cheesecake, or a light Vietnamese summer roll. Works beautifully alongside spicy Thai dishes where the touch of sweetness tames the heat. Serve ice-cold at 4–6°C.
